From a BeHIT leaflet, "WHY you need a helmet..."

A message from Formula one racing driver David Coulthard:

HAVE you ever seen me drive a Formula One racing car round a Grand Prix circuit without wearing a helmet? No, and you won't catch me riding my bike without wearing a helmet either.
I ride my bike nearly every day of the year as part of my fitness training programme and I never cycle without my helmet.
I love cycling - it's fun and a great form of exercise, but I don’t want to end up in a hospital Accident and Emergency department with a head injury. I'd probably never be able to drive a racing car again if I did and that's not a risk I'm prepared to take.
Helmets these days are just fantastic. They look good, they feel good and cyclists look much more professional when they wear one.
It makes sense not to mess up your head. Get a helmet and wear it.

Really?

These images are mainly [watermarked] thumbnails from http://www.suttonimages.com. Note that similar (but not the same) pictures were found on Coulthard's own website during the Martlew debate. The claim above was made in a leaflet copyrighted January 2003: the pictures show that it was untrue at the time and is almost certainly still not true.

And here Mr Coulthard demonstrates the wrong way to wear a helmet (and incidentally shows just how much bigger a helmeted head is than an unhelmeted one). Note the straps: uneven and very loose.:

So, why no helmets? It can't possibly be because they make you look dorky and he wanted to maintain a cool image.
