What's new (or newish)
|
| Not what you were expecting? The old site is at http://www.chapmancentral.co.uk:8080 - it's going to take a while to transfer the content across. Send me a mail [guy dot chapman at spamcop dot net] if there's a particular page you wanted me to expedite.
The site has been rebuilt as a wiki, which means that you can edit (FSVO you, and indeed edit). I did this because several people told me they would quite like to contribute, and because it makes it easier for me to build new content. I want to put more stuff in here.
- RIP Dad
- Winter cycling tips - feel free to suggest more.
- John Adams - new website and blog, fantastic, has free copy of Risk And Freedom. Highly recommended.
New Highway Code
The Highway Code is now updated, and the new version comes into force from October 1. There are 40 new rules governing cyclists and drivers' interactions with cyclists. Importantly, thanks to a strong campaign led by the CTC, the new Code clarifies that cyclists are under no obligation to use cycle facilities, leaving it to our judgement whether to use them or not. Cycling
|
| Cycling is a means of transport, a form of recreation and a sport. It's the most efficient form of transport on the planet. Some people have, through creative accounting, tried to show that cycling is as "polluting" as a small, economical family car, but this is essentially sophistry as it includes all the CO2 emitted by the cyclist but ignores the fact that most people need to breathe anyway, that the growing and consumption of food is more or less carbon neutral (give or take the cost of transport, which also applies to oil of course), and that the distance travelled per unit effort expended is greater than for any other mode of transport.
