A TLA is a Three Letter Acronym.

An acronym is a pronounceable word made up of the initial letters of its constituents (e.g. NASA, the National Aeronautical and Space Administration). Not all initialisms are acronyms. Most three letter initialisms are referred to as acronyms, partly because people are stupid.
