Cycling articles and campaigning

Cycling Stuff

These are general documents on cycling subjects.
My Bikes
It sometimes is about the bike, whatever that Mr Armstrong says.
Cycling Culture
Cycling culture, people and events. Cyclefest pictures this way, ladies and gentlemen...
Letters
Letters in the press or to and from various politicians and organisations on cycling subjects. Most of my letters are categorised under individual campaigning agendas, these are the more general ones (or those I haven't got round to categorising yet).
Product Reviews
Cycling products I have used and would (or would not) recommend. Some good, some not so good.
Recumbents
Some thoughts about the Dark Side, links, and other information
uk.rec.cycling
The UK cycling newsgroup. I nearly put this under Culture but in the end much of what is on this site is informed by debates on usenet, and quite a few of the visitors come here from uk.rec.cycling, so I've put it here where it's easier to find.

Campaigning

Here you will find my thoughts and actions on campaigning issues.
Cycle Helmets
Probably the most widely discussed and contentious campaigning topic in cycling today, cycle helmets receive a degree of attention which is wholly out of proportion to their actual merit. Here I have collected together some thoughts and analysis on the issue, including comments for educators and legislators. Some of this has been taken forward by the Bicycle Helmet Research Foundation, of which I am a member.
Advocacy
General cycle advocacy, including an article on cycle commuting which has been surprisingly popular both here and on H2G2. Reasons to be cyclists, one, two, three...
Sharing The Road
As if the weather and the wind were not enough to cope with, we also have to put up with hostility from motorists. All the usual human emotions are there: guilt, anger, targeting the "out group". Surely we are helping by not adding to the congestion? My article "Bloody cyclists!", one of the most viewed and linked on the site, is in this section.
Laws, Rules and Regulations
Laws, rules and regulations covering cycling and cyclists. Here I discuss what the rules currently are, and why some of us should be more scrupulous in obeying them, as well as proposing some changes I'd like to see.
Bicycle Lighting
A few thoughts on the vexed issue of bicycle lighting.

Interest

St John Street Cycles
Britain's biggest online bike shop, which also exists as a dot-BAM in Bridgewater, Somerset. Here you will find people who actually understand touring! Imagine that!
John Forester
Author of Effective Cycling, a cycling advocate, and waging what occasionally seems to be a one-man war against the massed ranks of Government stupidity and vested interests. A very detailed site with much food for thought.
Department of Transport
The UK's Department of Transport, Local Government and Regions. It's all their fault.
Wiggle
A brilliant online retailer, fast service and good prices.

Resources

Other cycling links
Links to other sites of interest [FSVO]
Cyclists' Touring Club
The largest and oldest cycling organisation in the UK, please don't be too put off by their notoriously appalling "clubroom chat" section - the rest of the site is great.
John Franklin
Author of Cyclecraft, and a great place to go to find out about helmets and other safety issues.
Sheldon Brown
Sheldon Brown is a Bicycle God. On this website you will find things you didn't realise you wanted to know.
Ken Kifer
The late, much lamented Ken Kifer's wonderful site, full of useful and interesting stuff. Mirrored here following his death at the hands of a drunk, drugged-up driver.
