Safe Cycling for Kids

Bike Safe

  • Bikes are great! Not only are they huge fun to ride, they give you independence. Two miles across town to see your mates? No problem! Less than ten minutes by bike, and you get to choose the time.
  • Bikes are safe. Doctors calculate that cyclists live longer than average, riding a bike is one of the best forms of exercise there is – and you don’t even know you’re exercising because it’s happening while you have fun!
  • Bikes are risky. A bike lets you put yourself in danger, sometimes very fast. But you can keep the risk down by doing the right things. I'm going to tell you some of those things.

What you need to do to ensure your safety breaks down into the following areas:
  • Roadcraft and riding skills
  • Keeping your bike in good order
  • Clothing: the right gear for the job

Lastly, there's a section for parents, who have an important role to play.
